Denham Supports US Pension Plan and USAID Delegation to South Africa

SOUTH AFRICA, 3 March 2018 – Denham Power’s Partner, Justin DeAngelis will join a delegation to South Africa on March 3-10, 2018 of investment professionals from U.S. pensions, foundations, and endowments exploring investment opportunities in infrastructure and other sectors in Africa.  The trip was arranged by MiDA* (Mobilizing Institutional Investors to Develop Africa’s Infrastructure) where Justin serves on the advisory council, to help grow awareness of Africa infrastructure investments.

The mission will develop relationships with African pension funds and other institutional investors for mutually beneficial U.S.-African business opportunities.  MiDA seeks to increase opportunities for U.S. financial service providers seeking to deepen relationships with African institutional investors who currently hold an estimated $1 trillion in assets, of which billions are invested in the United States. According to a McKinsey analysis, the region’s long-term fundamentals remain strong with domestic spending totaling over $4 trillion in 2016.  Listed by the IMF as the second fastest growing region through 2020, African markets increasingly offer attractive opportunities for U.S. businesses and investors.

*In September 2016, NASP and USAID established an Investment Partnership for “Mobilizing Institutional Investors to Develop Africa’s Infrastructure” or “MiDA.”  The Partnership will expose U.S. public plan sponsors and other institutional investors to opportunities to co-invest with African counterparts in Africa’s infrastructure.
