BioTherm Energy makes extensive use of carbon finance as created by Article 12 of the Kyoto Protocol (the "Clean Development Mechanism" or "CDM") to finance projects. The BioTherm Energy geographical target market is Southern Africa.

BioTherm Energy was the sole developer of and owns a majority equity interest in the MethCap SPV1 biogas to power plant which was commissioned in September 2007. MethCap SPV1 was the first CDM funded independent power project using renewable energy generation in the private sector in South Africa.
